7 lbs 3 oz and 20 in long.
The before:
We went to IHOP for dinner on Saturday night, which looking back I'm glad we did. Not being able to eat for 1-2 days isn't fun. I noticed the start of my contractions at about 9:30pm in the shower, but they didn't hurt so I didn't pay attention to them. I had taken a nap earlier in the day (again, another great unknown foresight) so I didn't go to bed until after 11:00pm. By 12:30am the contractions had started again and were a steady 3-5 minutes apart. I went downstairs scrambling to see how long they should be that close together before going to the hospital. I looked in every book I had...nothing; looked it up on the internet...nothing; called the hospital...they wouldn't tell me one way or the other; then I finally called my doctors number and got the nurse...they said that we should leave ASAP. So I was then running around the house grabbing my bags, waking Ethan up, and getting everyone ready to leave. By 1:00am we were off to the hospital.
The During:
We made it there by 1:30am and we got signed in and then they hooked me up to all of the monitors. Ethan wasn't allowed to be there because of the H1N1 crap, so Jared and Lani had to take turns in between him and me. After they got in touch with my doctor they tried for a few hours to stop the contractions and nothing helped; so at 5:00am my doctor said he would be there in an hour to deliver our baby. We sent Jared and Ethan home around 3:00am so they could get some rest because Jared had already been up for 24 hours and we still didn't know what was going to happen. So I had to call them back to the hospital and play switch-a-roo with Ethan again, get the scrubs on Jared, and be ready to go by 6am. When were ready, then I started freaking out...surgery....holy crap...a baby...holy crap!!! Here we go........................OH SHIT!!!
The After:
Everything went perfectly, no complications. The doctor mentioned chubby cheeks, then we had to wait for the nurses to asses her before they mentioned if she was a boy or girl. She didn't cry right away, which the doctor said may happen since she was a bit early and my blood sugar had come back high at one point. Jared and I were both crying and waiting...and waiting...we had our Gabrielle at 6:52am. She was absolutely perfect; 10 fingers, 10 toes, -1 do-dad, and the loudest cry ever. She had a good set of lungs and knew how to use them. The hardest part was hearing her cry and not being able to see her. They got her cleaned up and Jared brought her over. She was the prettiest baby girl ever. Our family was complete (for now).
****I loved the way everything went. I only had a few things I wanted and I got them.
1)I wanted to spend the first few moments with Jared and baby alone.
2)I wanted to introduce baby to whomever was waiting.
3)I wanted to feed her first so I could get over my issues with breastfeeding.
I was able to have it all this time around. The only thing missing was Ethan. He had to wait until we were released to meet his baby sister. We all made sure to update him often and talk to him as much as possible to include him. That was the hardest part of all. Every time I talked to him I wanted to cry.
The way after:
Everything was perfect. We both recovered well and by the time we were suppose to go home we were ready. I wasn't limited in much, I just had to take my time and go slow. Jared and Ethan were wonderful caretakers. They both cooked and cleaned and were there to help me whenever I needed it.
My boys are absolutely amazing. I am truly blessed and now we have our girl. Life doesn't get much better than this.
